The new PhaseTwoCebuGroup office has become more than just a place for the scholars to pick up their allowances (funds for their school expenses and daily living needs) a couple of times a month. Lots of the students now use the office to work on projects, study alone or with a group, pick up an afternoon snack, or just to relax and hang out between classes. The other day 8 scholars were at the office all at the same time. Keisha brought 4 friends to work on a big project together. Kerbie worked on something by himself. Jinkee and Riza just came to get their allowance and hang out for a while.
The next day more students stopped in. Mark took over one room to have a quiet place to study for his midterm the next day. Renalyn worked on a project and Michka needed to copy a bunch of documents for her program. Before Mark left for his next class, he played a quick game of Settlers of Cataan with Linda, our social worker and Joel, the Executive Director. Mark told me one of the unexpected things he enjoys is spending time with new friends, his fellow scholars, that he has met through the PTCG scholarship program.
