What does volunteering in Cebu look like?

It is a good thing when two different dreams by two different people turn out to be the same dream. Jacinta is a 6th grade teacher in a rural public school in the southern part of Cebu island. Through a mutual friend in Cebu, she contacted Shari about her dream of getting libraries in all the schools in her district (24). She made her case during a Skype call when Shari was parked outside a public library in Custer, SD to get wifi access. It was a long conversation because Shari recognized instantly that they shared the same dream. That was in 2020.
Today, 10 schools in Jacinta’s district have their own libraries and the dream continues. Thanks to Jacinta, PhaseTwoCebu is officially a stake-holder in her district, recognized by the Department of Education. She, and her husband Darwin, run a reading tutorial program on Saturday mornings outside their house for neighborhood kids using materials from PhaseTwoCebu.
Darwin recently connected with a cousin, Sir Seciban who is a fine carpenter, and arranged for him to build and deliver all bookcases needed by schools receiving libraries from PhaseTwoCebu in the area. The first deliveries were made at the end of April. And both Darwin and Jacinta are already thinking of new ways to be involved with PhaseTwoCebu.
