So we “do books” for a lot of rural elementary schools. This means collecting about 1200 books of different genres and preparing them like a regular library. Pawa Elementary School received books from PhaseTwoCebu and set up their school library about a year and a half ago. This was the first time they had books other than their textbooks to look at, read, and enjoy. How is this significant?
One parent recently shared about her 6th grade child’s experience regarding the library books. She is so happy that her son has been able to have books to enjoy and take home. She is even more appreciative because her son can read well! This may not seem too remarkable. You might think, “Well, of course he can read.” But if you try to learn how to read and don’t have any way to practice that easily, it can be pretty daunting.
So the small school library at Pawa Elementary School is already making a difference in the kids’ ability to read! And they get to read fun books!
